We have had our first snowfall

The snow began falling at midnight Saturday, and we woke to a wintery scene out the window.

It seemed like a good day to start my new library book, The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. I found it abit slow reading at first, but now am beginning to enjoy the story. This book is due back in 1 week, as it is a " Popular  Pick", and I think I'll finish it on time.

I thought I'd experiment with some yarn, as I'm thinking of crocheting scarves for the children in my group, at the daycare where I work, as Xmas gifts.

I think I'll consult a pattern, because the edges are uneven the way I tried this out. But I think this is something I can do if I start now, I only have 8 kids. I like to give something handmade.

Herbert got comfortable in a plastic container, and then moved to a laundry hamper of freshly washed clothes.

I couldn't find Arthur - sometimes he likes to sleep in one of three closets, or in the hall cupboard. He's quite hard to find in my son's room, as the blinds are always drawn, and Arthur blends in with the dark.

Later in the day, my son, Paul and I pulled on our winter boots, and went to Second Cup, downtown. We had pumpkin spice lattes - it seemed like a festive start to winter.

It's funny how once the snow falls, it looks like it's always been winter...here in Saskatchewan we have winter for 5 months - our longest season...and we get used to it very quickly.

OMGsnow already! It is pretty and I know how you can get used to it but it is also the reason we head south with the birds. Arizona can get cold especially at night but the sun seems to shine nearly all the time and that's what I love.

I laughed out old when I saw Herbert curled up in that box. Cats have such an interesting personality.

As for knitting, i think it is great you are making scarves for the kids. Homemade is so special and full of love. Lots of resources on the Internet and YouTube.

Fun post Brenda

And the latte! My fav kind of drink.

Wow! We've been lucky to have 60's weather for the past week! The snow does look beautiful though! I just hate to drive in it! I love the pictures of your cat in the plastic container and and laundry! By thursday we will have weather much colder, but no snow! Some years we have had snow near this date too, but usually there isn't snow until December or the end of November. Stay warm!

Alrightttttt....oh so cool! No pun intended. I wish I had snow to look at here. And Arthur, you are looking sooooo handsome. What a funny pic, in the plastic container.

Watch out for that ice out there but enjoy the views. G

Your season lasts about the same as ours. I like the scarf, the edges look fine to me. What a neat idea that is.

Lovely pictures Brenda. Herbert must be related to my Bumby as she always loves to force herself into containers and look uncomfortable, yet comfortable at the same time. Stay warm and I like the crochet! Ann

Teri,
I imagine you've had your fair share of snow, and getting to work through all kinds of weather.
And how wonderful now, that you enjoy as much sun, and warm weather as you wish!!
I have heard it can get quite cool in the deset at night.
Thanks for visiting, as always it's great to see you!!!

Melissa, Thanks for reading here!!
Actually, although I find the snow pretty, and the cold weather energising, and the children LOVE it, I would prefer if it waited til December as well!
We had a "brown Christmas" about 10 years ago, where the snow held off til after Xmas. I think most of us in Saskatchewan kind of enjoyed it.

Hey, Ger,
I know you love snow and cold weather, and I do too - it is just abit too long here, wouldn't you agree? :)

However, yesterday, the light inside was so much brighter with the white snow, and everyone's mood seemed happier. I think the snow and cooler weather is energising.
It's a bit hard when it gets to weeks of minus 40, and the ice is a concern.
But this week, I'm planning to celebrate with my children!

Hi, Geraldine,
No offense taken.
Headbonks to you, and the Chedster.
The cold weather makes me and Arthur glad to be inside, and we take lots more naps.

Sandy,
I enjoyed the pictures, over at your blog,of the coyotes, and certainly noticed that it looks very wintery already there.
Once winter settles in here, it tends to feel to me, that this is our "real" landscape, and weather. I think just because it is the longer season.
My son lived in Montreal, Quebec for 10 years, just off the St. Laurence River, and winters were very cold. I am now realizing that as you would be just off the sea, it would be very cold in winter, where you are.

Ann,
It's funny how such a large cat as Herb (now 18 lbs.), can actually be comfortable in such small containers!
But cute!
Thanks for reading here, and I think I will get to make these scarves, with all the cold weather, it always seems like a good time to work on a craft project, for some reason.
