An interesting speaker, and an important message

Over at my early childhood education blog, I posted a video from Youtube by a very interesting educator, and writer. I viewed a talk by him, posted by Tess Michaels, "Tessa Rose Natural Playscapes", and liked what he said so much that I looked him up on Google.

Sir Ken Robinson, has written several books on education and the creative process, and his most recent book is Epiphany, the story of a ballet dancer/choreographer. It sounds like a highly interesting book, and examination of creativity.

This video is long - 16 minutes, but he makes some good points, and is as well a good speaker. I think you may enjoy this.

Thanks for reading!

Brenda,

Thank you for sharing this enlightened, charming and timely speech. I brewed a cup of tea for my chest cold and sat and listened to every word spoken by this talented man. This is something I look forward to sharing with some friends. He has absolutely the right idea in regards to education, and beyond. If only more thought along these lines.

I well remember friends and family who were shocked that my son and his now wife were going to drive across the country to California to pursue their dreams. There were a lot of nay-sayers and although I didn't want them to go, my husband and I said only encouraging things. "Now is the time to do this" "This will be hard, but worth it" etc. We are saying the same to our daughter who wants to now follow them. And we may as well even though we have met the same negativity. My son and his wife tell us over and over again that when there were times they wanted to give up, they remembered that we believed in them and encouraged them. How glad I am we did. And how wrong the negative-speakers were and now must eat their words.

Again. Thanks for exposing me to this gentleman, I will be looking up more of his videos and books too.

Ann

P.S. sorry for the long comment. This really hit home for me.

This guy has some great ideas about education. I have seen too many people who were discouraged if not forbidden to follow their passions and it never ended up well for any of them. I just wish more of our state and national leaders and parents would lsten to him. Thanks for sharing.

Ann,
Thank you making time to enjoy this video.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that this man spoke to your heart.
I'm glad you could enjoy watching with a cup of tea, and I'm sorry to hear that you still have a chest cold...hopefully you'll soon feel well.
Thanks for sharing about how you have supported your son, and now as well your daughter to follow their dreams.
You seem to have been so good at providing your children both firm roots, and "wings" as well.
I love hearing from you and your thoughtful and friendly comments. :)

Sandy,
Your so welcome!
I'd heard of Ted talks from my son, but this was my first time to listen, and I plan to view more. There seems to be such a vast array of wonderful, interesting speakers.
Such a good way to fill one's mind when busy with tasks or pastimes, I think!
Thanks for dropping in!

Brenda,

Center of Gravity is my good friend CG and she called me up pronto after watching to say exactly what she said in her comment. Your response to my comment is so kind. I am lucky to have such great kids who don't mind working hard. CG's are the same and I suspect your son shares this trait as he was the one to direct your attention to this speaker.

Chest cold improving, no worries, seeing doc tomorrow.
