Dona Nobis Pacem

I have been following along with the music video log, Rise Up Singing, for several months.

The author of this vlog, Matthew Vaughn, is working towards recording all the songs in the song book, Rise Up Singing. This song book includes traditional folksongs; protest songs; the music of Pete Seeger; Woody Guthrie; Joan Baez; Joni Mitchell; Bob Dylan; Beatles tunes...to name just a few of the fabulous songs in this book..

This is music I enjoy - I even attempted to learn to play the guitar as a teenager using a songbook of Joan Baez, it wasn't to be. I didn't have the talent, or gumption to put up with very sore finger tips. But I love listening to this genre of music. As a teenager I also had a fascination with old Irish folksongs, and borrowed several lp's from our library with ancient, scratched recordings of very old men and women singing folksongs from their little cottages, in Ireland or Wales, as well. So, when I found Matthew's vlog, I took to it immediately.

Presently he is visiting family and friends in Canada. I thought you may enjoy this version of Dona Nobis Pacem, which Matthew, his brother, and friend, recorded at Muskoka Lake, Ontario.

The pristine setting seems to be a perfect place for this song sung in rounds, which translated into English, means "Give us Peace".
Hope you will enjoy! I can almost feel the brisk breezes off the lake. :)

That was fun Brenda. Those Latin words are from prayers that I learned and knew as a child.

Thanks for checking in, Teri!
I'm glad that this brought back good memories - I remember the days of chuch in Latin, but I don't recall learning the Latin - how great that you did!!
I enjoy Matthew's vlog, because he seems to own quite a joie de vivre, and is always up to some kind of adventure! As well I enjoy his music!
How was Day 3 - I think today maybe the last leg of your trip?
Hugs,
Brenda

What a treat! My dad and I used to fly in his little plane from Oshawa, Ontario to Muskoka on weekends sometimes. Love this video of the young men and their wonderful voices that blend beautifully. Hope you are feeling stronger - I've been catching up on blogland after a hectic week and weekend! Ann

Ann,
Thanks for dropping by!
I'm glad that this brought back to you memories of this happy time. Muskoka is well known as a wonderful lake and area for camping, and nature. It does look so pristine in this video.

BTW, I think you wrote once that you flew this little plane - am I remembering this right - that would have been such an adventure!

I'm planning to check over at TBL. and have been checking there every day...I hope all is well with you and your wonderful family!

Thanks for asking, I am feeling much stronger, and am thinking that once seeing my dr. this week, I may be able to return to work very soon.
